Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Choral Excellence
The Susquehanna Chorale is proud to have been the 1994 recipient of this award given by Chorus America. The Chorale is the first all-volunteer choir to receive this award.
"This one-time award, which recognizes Miss Hillis for her more than forty years of professional achievement and outstanding contributions to the choral art, is presented annually to an ensemble which demonstrates artistic excellence, a strong organizational structure, and a commitment to outreach, educational, and/or culturally diverse activities."
Margaret Hillis was the beloved founder and director of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Ms. Hillis pioneered the promotion of choral singing in America, bringing recognition to it as an art form in its own right.
