Youth Choral Festival – Experience the Inspiration!

•    Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 4 p.m. - Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts (Parmer Hall), Messiah University,  Mechanicsburg

Children’s eyes glow with excitement and anticipation for their first concert. Teens astound us with their level of skill and artistry. Adults complete the circle with a rich and polished sound. These voices come together for the Susquehanna Chorale’s Youth Choral Festival, a glorious concert designed to inspire every generation.

โ€‹

This year, we welcome former Young Women’s Chorale conductor Dru Deitch to the podium of the Youth Chorale, and Mitchell Sensenig will assume leadership of the Young Women’s Chorale after serving as its accompanist.

โ€‹

The Susquehanna Chorale will perform several selections and the entire family of choirs will combine for the beloved finale, Mack Wilberg’s Anthem of Peace

โ€‹

The members of the Children’s Chorale, Young Women’s Chorale and Youth Chorale represent the future of the choral art and its irreplaceable role in enriching our community. We invite you to join us and experience the inspiration of singing at all stages of life.

Candlelight Christmas – Experience the Joy!

It’s Christmas—time to sound the trumpet, light the tree, and gather once again for a holiday celebration with the Susquehanna Chorale. The majestic opening processional, Personent Hodie, sets the stage for what promises to be a spectacular concert filled with wonder and joy.

โ€‹

The reverence of the season is captured in Jim Clements’ Gabriel’s Message and Eric Whitacre’s hauntingly beautiful Lux Aurumque

โ€‹

We bring holiday cheer with Jerry Rubino’s setting of It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, and a whimsical, not-to-be-missed performance of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

โ€‹

Traditional songs and carols follow, including an audience sing-along of Mack Wilberg’s Joy to the World with brass and organ. And, as lights are dimmed and candles glow, the Chorale will once again surround the audience for the traditional finale, Silent Night.

โ€‹

Come and experience the magic of a Susquehanna Chorale Candlelight Christmas.

The cairn, a human-made pile of stones, has long been a symbol of prayer, balance, and guidance for many cultures. When found along a trail, the cairn communicates that someone has passed this way before and left a mark to guide others on their journey.

โ€‹

Our spring concert is filled with songs that capture those moments when we add our own marks along life’s way–through worship, through sharing love and joy, and through offering messages of reassurance and hope to others. We invite you to experience music old and new, crafted or recrafted by some of the world’s finest composers and arrangers, that explores our human journey in song.

โ€‹

  • Stephen Paulus’ Pilgrim’s Hymn, Ola Gjeilo’s The Ground, and the South African song, Indodana.

  • Eric Nelson’s arrangements of Leaning on the Everlasting Arms and When Memory Fades.

  • The Girl I Left Behind Me and The Nightingale set by Dan Forrest.

  • Shawn Kirchner’s I’ll Be on My Way.

โ€‹

The messages conveyed in this stunning program will lift your spirits and speak to your soul. This is a playlist for life—a musical story of who we are and why our journey matters. Come along with the Susquehanna Chorale and experience “Songs for the Journey.”
